Life in Massena is so hard and dry as the frigid landscape. In this barren land, two single mothers are trying hard to make the lives of their children. Lila is a Mohawk widow whose mother-in-law "stolen" his newborn son a year ago. Ray is a mother of two whose gambling-addicted husband just left the city with an advance for their new house trailer. Faced with little opportunity to make ends meet, Ray and Lila embark on a business transporting illegal immigrants in the United States through Mohawk territory. With the money for the down payment on hand to Ray, the women are determined to make one last attempt. When circumstances spiral out of control, the two women must make decisions of life or death on the basis of their friendship and love for his children.
